Tower Grove Park

Tower Grove Park is a 285-acre Victorian walking park in south St. Louis, given to the city by the merchant Henry Shaw and opened in 1872. It was laid out in the gardenesque style — winding carriage drives, open lawns, and dense, varied plantings — and is known above all for its scatter of ornate Victorian pavilions and summerhouses, along with gatehouses, statuary, and a picturesque stone ruin. It is a National Historic Landmark, regarded as the best-preserved gardenesque park in the United States.
