About
A three-story Beaux Arts office building topped with two low domed towers, built in 1899 for the St. Louis Republic, one of the city's daily papers (published under that name 1888–1919). Decades after the paper folded it was renamed the American Trust Building and, around 1960, given a full Modernist reskinning that flattened the original façade. Its last tenants were mundane — a McDonald's on the first two floors into the late 1990s, plus a chiropractor, a dentist, JR Cigars, and Manhattan Jewelry. It was demolished in September 2002 for a parking garage.
