1424 Washington Avenue

1919
Updated October 2026
About

A narrow three-story commercial building, a single bay wide, faced in ivory brick with matching terra cotta on the piers and spandrels. Bands of five double-hung windows run across the front at the second and third floors. Recessed spandrel panels and terra cotta sills are its only ornament, under a stepped parapet. The ground floor is a full-glass storefront.

History

Designed by Albert B. Groves and built in 1919, the same year as his Central Shoe Company Building a few blocks west. The original owner is not yet known. Later tenants have included a day spa and, more recently, The Selfie Room. It replaced a three-story house that stood on the lot in 1909.
