One of downtown's narrowest commercial buildings, 913 Locust occupies a lot only 23 feet 9 inches wide — the full width of the parcel — squeezed between two taller neighbors. The three-story building was constructed in 1900 and served as home to the St. Louis Federal Savings and Loan Association. In 1946 the facade was covered in polished granite cladding with metal windows, making it one of only a handful of downtown buildings with facades completely sheathed in mid-century cladding. (The NRHP form for 1001 Locust cites it alongside 510 Locust as one of the few remaining examples.) Roberts Brothers purchased the building ca. 2007; UrbanStreet Group acquired it in 2012 as part of a package of Roberts-era properties; TWG Development of Indianapolis purchased it in 2016 with plans for market-rate apartments, though current status is unclear.
