Knight Estate Building
A two-story commercial building of speckled brown brick trimmed with terra cotta of the same color. An expansive three-bay arcade with an engaged order articulates the facade, finely detailed in terra cotta, beneath a balustraded terra-cotta attic parapet. The ground-floor storefront openings have been altered, but the upper facade is otherwise intact. The rear wall on the alley has been heavily rebuilt, refaced in smooth stucco under a curved roofline, with new doors trimmed in orange.
The Knight Estate Building was built in 1909 to the design of Mauran, Russell & Garden, a loft-and-store building in the Washington Avenue garment district (now the Washington Avenue East of Tucker Historic District). After long commercial use and a vacancy, it reopened in 2005 as the Copia Urban Winery restaurant, which was gutted by arson in December 2007. The building was later rehabilitated, and its upper floors now house the Copia Lofts apartments.
