A six-story brick commercial block on the corner. The top floor was a row of big round-arched windows, and the floors below were divided by piers into wide bays of grouped windows. Lettered sign bands ran across the front between floors, with large display windows at street level.
This six-story building on the southeast corner of Eleventh and Olive ran 80 feet along Olive, from 1014 to 1018, and held a furniture store in 1909. By 1917 the H. W. Johns-Manville Company, the asbestos and building-materials maker, had its St. Louis branch at 1014 Olive, and it was still there in 1925. The P. A. Starck Piano Company of Chicago had its St. Louis store at 1018 Olive through the mid-1920s, in the heart of the street's piano row. A 1926 city photograph shows JOHNS-MANVILLE INC. lettered across the upper floors and Starck's name on the sign bands below. The building has since been demolished, and the corner is a parking lot.
