Ferguson-McKinney Dry Goods Company Building
A half-block Renaissance Revival wholesale warehouse at the northwest corner of Washington Avenue and Tucker Boulevard, one of the three largest warehouses on Washington Avenue. Red brick with terra cotta trim over a limestone base, it has 13 bays on Washington and 9 on Tucker, distinctive quoins, round-arched openings with voussoirs and keystones, a terra cotta entrance surround with a large scrolled keystone, and a heavily ornamented bracketed cornice with cartouches and modillions.
Designed by Eames & Young and built ca. 1901 on speculation for the Lesser-Goldman Cotton Company, the building was soon occupied by the Ferguson-McKinney Dry Goods Company, a major wholesaler and shirt maker, anchoring the corner of the downtown garment district through the 1930s. At mid-century the ground floor was "modernized" with polished black stone slabs, and by 2001 tenants included Amatin's Books and Gus's Fashions. Jacob Development Group acquired the building in 2005-06 and completed a $92 million renovation by Rosemann & Associates in 2007, creating 125 loft apartments known as The Bogen (German for "arch"). Oliver Properties purchased the building in 2023. It is a contributing building in the Washington Avenue Historic District (NRHP, 1987).
