Roe School (1888)

The first Roe School was a two-story brick building in the Romanesque Revival style, its main facade divided into three steep front gables trimmed in contrasting stone, each rising to a finial. Segmental- and round-arched window openings punctuated the brick walls, with a round window set within a stone surround near the base of one gable.

The first Roe School was built in 1888 on Mitchell Avenue near Prather Avenue. A St. Louis Board of Education property appendix recorded it as a two-story, four-room building. The school was replaced in 1919 by a new Roe School building at 1921 Prather Avenue, designed by Rockwell M. Milligan in the Tudor Revival style. The Mitchell Avenue building was demolished around that time.
